The accessory product SimplexMotionHub (or SmHub for short) allows easy connection of up to 4 SimplexMotion integrated motors to a host controller. It contains a powersupply and a parallel port breakout board for typical CNC applications with common softwares such as Mach3 and LinuxCNC. It also includes a charge pump feature for safe turn on, 0-10V output for spindle speed control and a switchable mains outlet.

SmHub package contents

For more general applications there is also a USB to RS485 converter included, allowing to connect the SmHub unit to a PC computer through the USB interface, and controlling the motors using the robust RS485 network and the Modbus protocol.

The unit also provides customization by including screw terminals on the inside, an extra connector on the front panel and full documentation in the manual including schematics.

Suitable cables for connecting SM100A motorts to the SmHub device is also available

A new application note is published to help customers using the SimplexMotion integrated motors for CNC applications. The SimplexMotion motors support the common step/direction interface to make it simple to replace stepper motors in low cost CNC applications for increased performance and added features.

This mode of operation is compatible to many widely used softwares for CNC machine control, such as Mach3 and LinuxCNC.

A new version of the supporting SimplexMotionTool software is also released, along with parameter files for easy setup of the motors for CNC applications.

An application note convering conversion of a manual milling machine to a PC computer controlled CNC machine has been published. The machine used for conversion is an Optimum BF20L milling machine. The SimplexMotion100A motor units are used for the X/Y/Z axis drives and the SimplexMotionHub central unit is used for powersupply and motor connections to the PC computer.Spindle on/off and speed control is also implemented.
The SimplexMotion100A motors are suitable to replace step motors in this type of applications to get more performance and functionality to a marginally higer price.

A video is also available that shows the machine modifications and the workflow to do computer controlled 3D milling operations.

The sensor technology used on the SimplexMotion line of integrated motor units has been subject for a patent application in early 2011. The application was submitted to the swedish patent office and has now been granted in November 2012. A PCT application has been filed with the original priority date from the swedish submission.

The patent covers rotor position sensing using the magnetic field from the motor magnets on outer rotor brushless motors and with the magnetic sensors on a tangentially arranged PCB circuitboard.

Further patent applications covering technologies in the field of mechatronics is under consideration.
